Steamship Company outlines investment plans

From Scilly Today 7 Dec 2012. There will be an extra aircraft serving the islands and Sunday sailings of the Scillonian III next year. Those are just two developments outlined by Steamship Company chief executive, Jeff Marston, to members at Thursday’s Transport Committee.

The Steamship Company confirmed The Scillonian was expected to leave dry dock in Penzance on December 18th and will now meet EU Class B regulations with a licensed capacity for 450 people.

Comment. The achievement of EU Class B compliance is an important step forward for the passenger ferry service as it improves the overall reliability of links between the mainland and the Scilly. The Steamship Company confirmed that a ferry winter service was not commercially viable which is a position FRIST acknowledges and is the reason it has been lobbying the Department of Transport for public support.
