New 'super' committee to deal with transport issues

From Scilly Today 10 June 2015:
The Council’s new Transport, Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee will be headed up by Cllr Robert Dorrien Smith from Tresco.  Robert was elected into the position at last Thursday’s meeting  (4 June).

The new ‘super-committee’ has the widest remit of any Council group, merging the former Transport Committee with General Purposes, which looked after water, sewerage, waste and other aspects of islands’ infrastructure like roads.

The Council’s newest member, Ted Moulson, who was elected last November, will serve as the Vice Chairman.  Ted Moulson pipped Marian Bennett to the post by one vote.

We welcome the setting up of the new Committee because we were frustrated by the narrow remit (and inactivity) of previous Transport Committee.  We also welcome the appointment of Robert Dorrien Smith as Chair and Ted Moulson (Scilly’s newest Councillor) as his deputy. There is every reason to be optimistic that Islanders' transport concerns will be pursued more energetically and effectively in the future.
