From Scilly
Today 3 Dec 15.
"Travelling to Scilly could be easier for air
passengers from East Anglia and West Yorkshire next season.
The government has announced that they’ll subsidise
air services from Newquay to Leeds-Bradford Airport and between Exeter and
Norwich.
In last week’s spending review, George Osborne
announced that eleven successful bidders across the UK had been awarded support
from the UK Government’s Regional Air Connectivity Fund." Read the full article here.
The
announcement follows an announcement in early November that from April 2016 the
controversial £5 airport development fee levied on departing passengers (since
2005) will be abolished and that Ryanair will make a welcome return to the
Airport with two new routes from Frankfurt and Alicante.
Comment. The
potential of Newquay Airport to deliver much more to the economy for Cornwall
and IOS is at last being realized. Lets hope the new links are successful
and encourage more links to airports in the UK and Europe.
