IOSSCO Objection to Heliport Proposals

The Penzance Heliport application has 2685 comments registered (it must a record) with 19 of those raising objections (the remainder being in support of the proposals or occasionally  ‘neutral’).

The IOSSG Ltd have filed a 15 page letter of objection which can be downloaded at the link below.

Comment.  After decades of working in competition with British International Helicopters it is unsurprising that the IOSSG is now ‘pulling out the stops’ to protect its relatively recently achieved monopoly on passenger and freight transport between the IoS and the mainland.  Fortunately for islanders ‘competition’ is not a material planning consideration in determining planning applications except in very special and narrowly prescribed situations (this is not one of them).  See the FRIST facebook page for comments and/or an opportunity to comment.  Whilst the IOSSCO has made a massive effort to fill the void created by the loss of the BIH service, few familiar with the islands would deny that the economy and the sustainability of the island community in the winter months has not been undermined by the loss of the helicopter service which had unique capabilities in poor weather.
