CAA grant Skybus temporary approval to carry blood samples.
The Civil Aviation Authority have confirmed in a letter (26 Feb) to Lord Tony Berkeley that they are granting Skybus temporary approval to carry blood and other human medical samples as they have been reassured by Skybus that personal will be fully trained within the next few months for the award of 'Dangerous Goods Approval'. The response follows a letter from Lord Berkeley to Andrew Hains, Chief Executive of the CAA on 26 January and subsequent discussions between CAA and Skybus.
The inability to transport medical samples in a timely manner from the islands has been a significant handicap in the delivery of medical services on the islands since Nov 2012 when the BIH helicopter service ceased operating.
Lord Berkeley is a member of FRIST's Advisory Group.
