Transport Committee vote in favour of Sunday Flying

The IOSC Transport Committee met on the 24 Sep.  The main item on the agenda was whether to support Sunday flying.  The final vote was 7 in favour and 2 against.  Reports provided to committee members indicated very strong support from tourism based businesses which were concerned about survival in a highly competitive market and the need to accommodate the trend towards short stays.  Officers expressed concerns about the additional manpower costs of covering weekend flying (~£74,000/pa).  An impassioned plea in favour of Sunday flying was made by Jeff Marston, Chief Executive, IOSSCo who explained that the Company saw the move as essential.
Final approval of the introduction of Sunday flying requires a votes in favour by the full IOS Council.

There is an ongoing debate on the issue on the Scilly Today website here.
