Councillors briefed on Airport Cost Saving Options.

2013 has seen a substantial increase in airport charges in an attempt to improve St Mary’s Airport finances.  These fees are a significant part of the air ticket price and air ticket prices are already high enough.  Councillors on the Transport Committee (18 July meeting) have been keen to explore options that reduce Airport costs or raise revenue without increasing charges given the continuing decline in passenger numbers and the spectre of having to increase costs faster than inflation in the future.  The Council’s outline list of options can be seen here and the Airport General Report (for 18 July) giving airport passenger numbers can be viewed here.

The Scilly Today news item on the issue can be viewed  here.
